Transforming Healthcare Through Collaboration
Transforming Healthcare Through Collaboration
In this exciting new book, “We CAN Fix Healthcare – The Future Is Now,” President and CEO of Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health, Dr. Stephen K. Klasko, proposes an extraordinary, even science fiction, event where a no-blaming conversation about the healthcare system leads to provocative ideas for disruption that allow even Democrats and Republicans to see that they can collaborate.
Built on interviews from every part of the system, Steve Klasko, Greg Shea, and Michael Hoad find extraordinary solutions from education to insurance to disparities (with help from a time-traveling Harry Truman). This book posits that the solution to healthcare in America is collaboration to transform, not tinker.

TESTIMONIALS
Drs. Stephen Klasko and Gregory Shea have undertaken an examination of our healthcare system, not to extol its virtues which are manifest, but rather to provoke a series of images for the next era. The authors cast a critical eye at where we are at present in the evolution of our healthcare system … disjointed, expensive, and educationally primitive. They then provoke the reader to imagine a system for the next decade that is coherent, cost-effective, and patient-centric. The rewards for quality will replace volume-based incentives. The style is narrative and energizing and is based on a wide variety of interviews looking at service, education, economics, and the sociology of healthcare in the United States. The reader will be richly rewarded with a liberal education in healthcare. New ideas in education, research, and delivery are manifest. No one who opens the covers of this manuscript will be disappointed.
RICHARD H. ROTHMAN, MD, PHD
FOUNDER, THE ROTHMAN INSTITUTE AT THOMAS JEFFERSON UNIVERSITY
It has been a while since I felt optimistic after reading a book on our healthcare system, and yet that best describes my sentiment after finishing Stephen Klasko’s new book, We CAN Fix Healthcare — The Future is Now. The book doesn’t shy away from all that is wrong with our healthcare system, but the focus is squarely on what can be right about it. If you want to be knowledgeable about the evolution of our healthcare system, and armed with sensible, apolitical solutions, you have come to the right place. Most importantly, this book has been written for the masses, not just the rarified few in the world of health policy. Klasko and crew are tremendously skilled writers who adeptly use humor and self-deprecation to keep you turning the page — while also keeping you hopeful for the future.

A mighty wave of breathtaking innovations and breakthroughs awaits us in medicines, medical devices and delivery systems. Klasko and Shea show how all of these dazzling possibilities can become realities…and soon!

Cloud, mobility, and big data shifted market power from entrenched incumbent organizations to customers-in-control. Healthcare had missed this message. Dr. Stephen Klasko is a visionary and a courageous healthcare disruptor. As the leader of one of the nation’s most forward-thinking medical institutions, he explains in a clear and easy to read prose exactly what must be done to transform our outdated healthcare system.
